Hunter Violet McKendry is a composer, singer-songwriter, and vocalist from Katonah, New York. She is currently a student at Colby College – a liberal arts college in Waterville, Maine – pursuing a double major in Music and Environmental Science. Hunter manages Colby’s on-campus music recording studio. She completed the prestigious Future Music Moguls program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 2020.

Hunter has been an enthusiastic musician from an early age. Largely self-taught, she became interested in film scoring after being inspired by Max Richter’s On the Nature of Daylight in the 2016 film Arrival. Hunter works primarily in the contemporary classical and minimalist genres. Her compositions have been featured in two short films: As If There Were Trees (2022) and Best Before (2024).

Hunter is the lead vocalist for Right on Red, an indie rock band at Colby. She is also a soloist for The Colbyettes – Colby’s only all-female a cappella group, and was section leader for Colby Collegium – a small, audition-based choir. Hunter is a powerful, dynamic singer – a soprano with impressive range and versatility. She loves to harmonize with fellow vocalists or over a recorded track of her own voice, and she enjoys experimenting with complex, atmospheric layering in her work. Hunter’s debut album Words & Voices was released on Apple Music and Spotify in 2024.

Hunter plays the piano and guitar, and (sort of) the harp. In 2024, she was a summer intern at Duotone Audio Group – a music and sound production company in New York – where she edited music scores for commercials and films. When not busy studying – and writing, recording, and performing music – she enjoys relaxing with her two cats and traveling. Hunter is always up for an adventure!
